You will find below tips that you need to carry your Yuba cargo bike, electric or not, safely and in accordance with the Highway Code (please check the conditions in your country).
YUBA BIKES WITHOUT ELECTRIC ASSISTANCE:
Most E-bike carriers are compatible with our cargo bikes without electric assistance (except for the Supercargo). However, please check the following criterias when making your purchase:
- Maximum load of the bike carrier: most E-bike carriers can carry bikes up to 25 kilos per bike, for a total of 60 kilos. Our non-electric cargo bikes weigh in at 24 kg for the Kombi and 25 kg for the Mundo Lux, so you’re well within the limits.
- The system for attaching the bikes to the rack: Yuba bikes have a steeply inclined horizontal tube, so it can be difficult to attach them to the frame on some racks. In this case, you can use the Thule Bike Frame Adapter.
- Bike length and wheelbase: cargo bikes are longer than traditional bikes:
Kombi = 192cm for a wheelbase of 1240mm
Mundo Lux = 212cm for a 1410mm wheelbase.
The Yuba Supercargo cannot be transported on French roads using a bike carrier, as the French Highway Code prohibits loads wider than 2m55. As the Supercargo is 2.60 m long, we recommend that you transport it using a van (or pedal with a smile :-)).
YUBA BIKES WITH ELECTRIC ASSISTANCE
Our electric cargo bikes weigh between 30 kg and 35 kg. Remember to check this aspect when you buy your bike, by checking the maximum load of the bike carrier. As the width of your car’s load must not exceed 2.55m, according to the Highway Code, all Yuba models (except the electric Supercargo) can be transported in the rear of a vehicle. The bike rack must be adjustable to suit the longer wheelbase of your cargo bike:
Fastrack = 190 cm for a wheelbase of 1235mm
Mundo Electric = 212 cm for a 1410mm wheelbase
Spicy Curry = 212 cm for a 1420mm wheelbase
Spicy Curry V3 = 210 cm for a 1430mm wheelbase
Kombi E5 and E6 = 192cm for a 1240mm wheelbase Thule VeloSpace XT2 or XT3 models are perfectly compatible, just add Thule XXL Fatbike Wheel Straps.
